Eat great middle eastern food, then drop the boys off at the board game place next door so I can actually have some me time for a change. Life doesn't get any better than this.

I ordered the lamb kabobs to go for the hubby and they were very dry. Everything else was just ok. I gave 1 star for the friendly service. Might try them again if I continue to see good reviews as this might have been an off day.

This is probably the best Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food in Kansas City. I brought my parents here, and they are not easily impressed by food, but they really enjoyed it. Great atmosphere and every bite was delicious!

I wish I had been more impressed. I really want there to be a Middle Eastern restaurant in Johnson County that blows me away. Because let's be real, it's a bit of a drive to 39th & Wyoming from south JoCo. Now, I'm not saying The Basha is terrible. The food is decent. But in an okay way. In a way where I'm not unhappy but I'm also probably not going to return any time soon. On our visit, my boyfriend and I ordered the hummus and baba ghanouj appetizers. I ordered the chicken shawerma sandwich and he ordered the falafel sandwich. I wasn't a fan of the hummus. I liked the consistency but I found the flavor bland. I loved the baba ghanouj, however. It has a creamy, smoky flavor that makes my mouth water just remembering. My chicken shawerma sandwich was okay, good but nothing to brag about. I tasted my boyfriend's falafel sandwich and found that to be a tad better. We both opted for salads instead of fries (really? Fries?). I liked the salad dressing on the Basha salad but was underwhelmed with the content. It was basically just a bowl of cucumbers and some tomatoes. I had wanted to substitute the Basha side salad with a Greek side salad (I was craving feta and olives) but our waitress told me such a substitution wasn't allowed. Hmmm. Another thing that bothered me is that you have to pay extra for more hot sauce. This might be a money-maker for them, considering our hummus and baba ghanouj came with tiny little drops of hot sauce. If you like it spicy, you definitely spend the 50 cents for more. I hate to be hard on this place, because they are trying. I like that ethnic cuisines are becoming more popular in this part of the metro area. It's refreshing. But I'm still going to take the road trip to Aladdin's for my Middle Eastern fix. Unless I just need some baba ghanouj to go. Then The Basha is my place.

Excellent amazing service and equally great tasting food. Visiting family here and they recommended this place. Got the platter for 4 and wow it looks great and tastes even better. The sauces and hummus are amazing! Wow! Feel like in could eat more and come regularly.

Went in on a Wednesday night and the place was empty. A few more tables filled up as we were there. The food was excellent, great flavor. I had chicken schawerma and the spices were great. Good meal!

Love this place! Great food!! Love the grilled platter!! They also have live music on Friday nights! The service is also friendly!! They have a cool seating area in the back where u sit on little cushions!

I got chicken (baiyani-not sure on spelling). Anyway it was great, it came with a side of something else yummy I'm not going to try to spell. A meal plus balaclava for dessert was around $10.00. The staff was friendly and willing to explain dishes and the restaurant was clean.

Stopped by for carry out and was more than surprised! I had chicken schwarma and got falafel for my wife. It was excellent and I can't wait to return!

My fellow Yelpers reviews talked me into ordering the baba ghanoush, but we found it to be very smokey tasting, overwhelmingly so! Our table much preferred the hummus with our warm pita bread. Tried the mixed grill dinner to sample some new things. Of the meats presented on the platter some were awesome: the chicken kebabs (had a curried seasoning that was delicious) and the gyro meat too! The lamb rolled thing (Kefta?) was OK but not something I would order again, personal preference on that all the way. Husband discovered that he absolutely LOVES chicken schwarma. Rice was amazing, I need to learn how to cook like that!! The gentle group of women that were waiting on us were all full of smiles and eager to help without being intrusive. Great service! Quirky thing: when we arrived they were playing French accordion music. Didn't quite fit the experience, but it later switched to music that was a better match to the meal. Funny how something little like that really stood out, but it did! Glad that Groupon led us to discover this little place, we will be back!

This is the best Mediterranean food that I've had in Kansas since I moved here seven years ago. They have a a good menu selection that offers something for everyone. I ordered the chicken shawerma lunch plate and it was fantastic. The chicken was spiced very well and the added veggies, hummus, and rice were good accompaniments. I would definitely come back here in the future.

Average food, nothing special, we got the chicken shawarma. Chicken was moist but the flavor was off and it was on top of plain rice and on the side with a dill dip mixed with mayonnaise. Not sure if that's supposed to be a good combo because it wasn't.

We ate there last week-end and loved the food! I had creamy chicken curry; my spouse had chicken sharma. Both were excellent--very flavorful but not burn-your-mouth hot. I'm sorry that another reviewer didn't like the baba ghanoush, but we considered it some of the best we've ever had--it tasted as though it had been prepared two minutes before being served. The restaurant was about half full, but everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves. The waitstaff was attentive and very friendly. The only thing that disappointed me--and it was only a mild disappointment--was that the chai tea was Stash brand, not Indian. Basha currently has a deal on Amazon local--if you're undecided about whether to try it, get the coupon and see for yourself.. We will absolutely be returning there, often.

I eat here regularly. The food is tasty, and I like the atmosphere. They play nice music at a reasonable volume. The prices are very fair. The only shortcomings are that the service is inconsistent and their rice used to be awesome but within the last couple of months has become flavorless. Don't expect amazing, but solidly good is what you get from The Basha.

We had the sundried tomato chicken and the mixed grill... Both were amazing! Kunafa for dessert with some Turkish coffee is the perfect ending! The baklava looked amazing as well! Definitely our new favorite Mediterranean restaurant ! We came on a Friday night and they had live music.. It's a nice way to end the week!

I've only had good experiences here but have only visited during lunch. Food has been top notch and service has never been off. Best Mediterranean in overland park, maybe all of Kansas but I can't say I've tried the place in Dodge city for comparison. I'm going to eat here again this week and I'm sure again and again.

Came here for a company birthday lunch yesterday because the birthday girl wanted mediterranean. It was everyone's first time here, including myself so we weren't sure what to expect. To start off, this place is a little hidden... but it's to the right of BWW and the entrance is around the corner to the right, not in the front. (you're welcome) So we got seated inside and for a table of 8 and the server came out promptly to take our drink orders. For appetizers, we ordered: -Hummus- very good hummus! -Sampler Platter (baba ganoush, hummus, falafel, stuffed grape leaves) Appetizers were good. The hummus was perfectly seasoned and great creamy consistency. I really liked the baba ganoush, though the others didn't care for it. Guess that's my personal preference. The falafels were OK, nothing to write home about... wish they were more seasoned because I LOVE falafels and the stuffed grape leaves were OK, but I'm not a big fan of it.. the others liked it. Again, it's all about preference. For lunch, I ordered the kefta kebab plate. Presentation was a little funky as it looked like they just plopped two pieces of lamb meat on a bed of rice... but the flavor and taste really made up for it. The lamb meat was moist and seasoned well - mixed with the tahini sauce and rice it was perfect! Very delicious. For dessert, we ordered: *Baklava - OK, but it was hard to cut into, and phyllo wasn't as flaky as I'd hope. I like HolyLandCafe's better *Kunafa - the reviews I've read have mentioned to try the kunafa because it's supposed to be delicious, amazing, blah blah. Well to me and the rest of the group.. it was just blah. It was kind of a weird texture, the flavors were funky. *Rice Pudding - okay, I really enjoyed the rice pudding. It wasn't too sweet and the topping of the crumbs and raisins really added a nice touch. The serving size was pretty big as they had it in a larger cereal bowl size. It's perfect for 2 or even 3 people. Overall, I really did enjoy this place. The food was pretty tasty, but the service was a little off. They were definitely friendly, don't get me wrong, but slow. Our server barely refilled our drinks, and we had to remind him that we needed refills. I'm assuming he may be new? Though we were the only large party there at the time so that shouldn't really be an excuse. Food was 4 stars. Service was 3 stars.. But technically I'd rate this place 3.5 stars. I will be back again. After all, everyone deserves a second chance, right?

I was not impressed with food or service. Lentil soup was watery mess. Hummus was just ok. Gyro plate was also just ok. I would not go back. Waitress was on her phone texting in corner the whole time. We were going to try rice pudding for dessert, but she never came back for us to order it, so we gave up. Not great food experience

I've visited here a couple times and have been very happy every time. The grape leaves are delicious and the chicken shawarma is excellent. The rice pudding is amazing, such awesome texture, so good! Service is always friendly too.

This food is unreal. Had the baba ghannouj, kefta sandwich, chicken shawarma sandwich, tabbouleh and baklava. Everything is spectacular. The nicest service, and cool decor/design/ambiance. What more could you wish for from a restaurant?

    (5)
  • Kimberli B.

Hands-down the best grape leaves I've ever consumed; they are fresh-made & f'ing amazing. The Chicken Biriani was divine but might want to pick the billion onions off of it if you're not a lover of onions--seriously, one entire onion in your dinner. Ask for extra pita. Sweet introverted waitperson. I wish I visited this city more so I could eat here.

Come here for the falafel and the hummus made in house. Delicious Mediterranean food, friendly staff, and reasonable prices in a fast casual setting.

  • Bobbi T.

My coworker brought a few of us here for lunch. I don't normally crave mediterranean food so didn't know what to order. Everyone ordered the Shwarma. I went with the Chicken Schwarma sandwich with garlic sauce and fries. I missed the part where I could've picked hummus. Fortunately, my coworkers were kind enough to share their hummus with me because it was delicious! I liked the schwarma with the garlic sauce the most. Maybe I just really liked the garlic sauce because when I ate the schwarma by itself, it wasn't as good without the sauce. Our server was also really nice. She told us about their punch card app called iGiftBack. We also got a 10% off coupon for our next visit.

If you're looking for authentic, delicious Mediterranean cuisine, you need to try this place! The food is AMAZING. I'm very picky, so trust me when I say that this restaurant is the real deal. And it's affordable as well--bonus! Side note: if you have a problem finding it, it's located next to Buffalo Wild Wings. :)

Have been here for lunch more than a dozen times. The staff is so friendly and efficient, and the food is consistent and wonderful. I personally prefer the creamy chicken curry, but I honestly don't think you could go wrong with anything. This has become a staple in our office.

  • C L.

This place would get one more star if the servers weren't so hopeless. I normally don't believe in rating ethnic joints on their service, but this place is ridiculous. I have probably been here a dozen times now and the last several times have been terrible. Completely dim-witted servers confusing the simplest situations is extremely frustrating. As decent as their food is, I can't fathom coming back here if one of the two chicks that served me the last two times have to serve my table again. As for the food, it's good. I really like their gyro meat, which is usually my go-to. The salad dressing on the house (Basha) salad is pretty good, too. Other yummy stuff here: hummus and baklava. Tilapia is okay, but steep for one one lonely filet. The not so good: I don't care too much for their beef schwarma or tabbouleh. If you can put up with brain-dead servers, this place has good eats. If you want royal treatment or just someone to understand the basics of taking an order and bringing your check, you may end up highly aggravated like I was.

I'm going to have to agree with Linda M - The reviews I'm reading on Yelp are nothing like the food I ate. I would have given this this place two stars and just called it decent food, but I'm currently writing this while in a state of mild food poisoning. If a place makes me sick, it's a one star review all the way. We decided to try this place on a Sunday evening at dinner time (~6:30PM). The place was completely empty upon arriving. Not one single person. Generally, empty restaurants aren't a big deal to me, but it is a bit disconcerting when it's your first time trying a new restaurant and the place is completely empty and quiet. We were sat promptly and attended to by a very quiet and shy woman. Nice, but a little awkward. I think she maybe didn't speak much English. We both ordered ice teas, which I could immediately tell were from a powdered mix (as Linda M also observed in her review). Fortunately, I don't mind powdered tea (it's a nostalgic thing) so I wasn't too put off by that. We ordered the Kibbah appetizer and the Mixed Grill plate for two. The Kibbah came out first. The dish was pretty bland, but even more of a concern to me was the temperature - it was around room temp. I had higher hopes for our main dishes, which consisted of grilled Kefta, gyro beef, and grilled chicken skewers served over a bed of rice with various dipping sauces such as tahini, siracha, garlic dill, and yogurt with cucumber. The flavor of all the meats were decent, but not outstanding. Once again I noticed the temperature of the meat was a little on the cool side. I shrugged it off since I figured none of these things are actually made to order. Boy am I regretting that now. I can't speak for what this place is like when it's actually busy. Maybe the food is better. All I do know is that I felt like we got some food that was sitting around all day with no one to eat it. Even if it had been warm (and not made me physically ill), I'd still say our dishes were average at best. I've had much better Mediterranean here in town. As for the service, I can't complain about our waitress. She was nice, I just think there's a bit of a cultural barrier going on. The only other employee I saw the whole time was some guy that stared at us for a minute before attending to something behind a wooden screen. All in all, it was a strange experience. We didn't exactly feel unwelcome, but it wasn't really welcoming either. Like I said, maybe it's a whole other ballgame during the week. Anyhow, that's my two cents. Now if you'll excuse me I need to chew some more tums.

Buffet is DISGUSTING. Tiny selection and lunch buffet costs 13.05 + tax!!! Rice options were dry with no flavor and meat was dry and chewy. I dont consider myself a picky eater and thought it was the worst food i forced myself to eat due to the expensive price! They keep the huge metal lids on the containers forcing you to have to lift the lid up to decide if you want to eat it and then put the huge lid back. There was no one else dining there and the worker was STARING as i ate. Super awkward dining experience that i wouldnt recommend to anyone. Save your money!!

  • Lindsay J.

Decent spot for lunch. The greek salad was small and the gyro wasn't the best we've had. But the falafel and hummus appetizer made up for it some. They do have a lunch buffet on the weekends. May be the way to go next time??

We returned after over a year and we were far more satisfied than before! The previous problems were not there: no long wait, no noisy customers, no odd waiters. Glad to see The Basha has rectified the problems we encountered from last time. Today, we ordered the chicken shawarma plate and the gyro plate. Chicken shawarma was good and the gyro was great-not prepackaged Restaurant Depot meat, which many middle eastern eateries use. The sauces were delicious, thanks to their creamy mayo bases. Hummus was great and Baba Ghanouj was very smoky but tasty as well. The music was also very suited to the ambience. Only thing I could really recommend is maybe some better lighting. It seemed pretty dim in areas, especially in the lounge.

WOW OMG I can't believe I found this place and their second location at 135th and Metcalf! The Baba Ganoush is PERFECT!!!! Can't wait to go back! Chicken Biryani, Hummus, Falafel, Pita, Tabouleh is so good! I don't know who owns this place but keep it up!!! See you tomorrow!!!

Finally tried this after wanting to for months. We were having dinner with some friends (plus kids) so we decided to carry out so the kids could just enjoy chicken nuggets. Plus this is near their house which made it super easy to go pick it up. I was craving everything on the appetizer sampler platter so that's what I ordered for dinner. The hummus and baba ghanoush were the stars (until my husband found a hair in the baba ghanoush I gave them to try). The falafel was really dry and the dolmas was pretty good (they had meat in them, which was a bit odd - my friend who doesn't eat meat and also ordered the same was pretty disappointed when she bit into it and discovered this). My husband ordered The Basha plate and really enjoyed his dish and my other friend liked his gyro sandwich, but I don't think either would rush back any time soon. I'd be willing to try The Basha again (maybe for lunch) but would rather go elsewhere for my Mediterranean craving.

I tend to want to feed my falafel addiction rather than break it, so when I read a review of The Basha, I knew I had to give it a try. The restaurant itself is very nice - it's decorated well and has a very warm, comfortable feel. (I'm usually eating falafel in a grocery store or a gas station, so you can see why I was impressed.) You could definitely go here for a 'nicer' meal and not feel like it was too casual. The menu was expansive. I got the lunch veggie plate, which included a salad, pita and hummus to start, and then falafel with tahini sauce, baba ganoush, rice and stuffed grape leaves. I see negative comments about the salad in the comments below, and I'm not sure if they've improved it or just have better veggies in the summer, but I thought it was good. I was glad to see the video below that showed the owners making falafel with the mold; it is so perfectly formed that it might have been packaged. It was a little dry, but flavored well. The rice was really good and the baba ganoush was wonderful. (Not a fan of stuffed grape leaves in general, but theirs were fine.) My dining companions enjoyed their gyro and chicken schwamera. The gyro meat is more seasoned chunks than shaved, but it was still tasty. One of my friends got the rice pudding, which I tasted. While it wasn't 'life-changing' as promised by the waitress, it was pretty darn good. All in all, I was extremely happy with the entire experience and am always happy to find another place to feed my falafel love.

This is a wonderful place with excellent cuisine and a nice atmosphere. The cuisine is very authentic and rich flavorful. Be dish I got was a ground lamb dish that had very good seasoning without too much spice My wife got a vegetarian dish which was excellent also. There baba ghanoush was amazing It seems to be very fresh and well done. They spend a lot of time in preparing the food. On the weekends I believe they have a very nice buffet. We will definitely go there again the only problem is it's a little hidden but now we know where it is. The prices are very reasonable.

I got the 2 person platter ( I shared, stop laughing) and ranked the meat as such. Chicken - best Beef - flavorful but dry Lamb - dry Lebanese nights dessert tastes like sweet rosewater with the crunch of pistachio. Strange at first but it grows on you... soon you crave it at night (which is why they named it as such, I presume). Rice is yummy! Owner/Manger (?) checked on us a couple of times and waitress was very nice. Will return for lunch.

Are dinner here with some colleagues, all of us visiting KC and not native. I started with the stuffed grape leaves and some mint tea - both very good. They asked if I wanted meat in my grape leaves or not which I think is a good option to have! My entree was also great - We all left impressed. As far as things they could improve: service was a little slow at times. I waited quite a while to get water and a little bit for my bill. But truthfully it was a great restaurant and the staff was very friendly!! Will go back if I find myself in KC again!

Hmmmm.... I'm trying to summarize how I feel about The Basha, but the only words that come to mind are "interesting" and "underwhelming". I dined here with a friend on a cold winter evening. The restaurant is quite small, a couple of booths and a couple of chairs, and then a more" loungy" area for hookah, I presume. Even though the space is small, it was very chilly, we both had to leave our winter coats on so that we didn't shiver throughout our dining experience. On each table are digital picture frames that display promotional pictures of menu items. That was the interesting part. I think there were about 10 different pictures that loopwd one after the other during our meal. We ordered the appetizer sampler, which came with hummus, falafel, baba ganouj and grape leaves. The grape leaves were good, the hummus was rather bland, the falafel were very, very dry, and the baba ganouj was drowned in what tasted like smoked paprika? I'm willing to bet the pita was store bought and not made in house, which is disappointing. They Gyro platter was fine, unremarkable. The best part of the meal was the cinnamon tea. It appeared as though only one server was working the entire restaurant; so needless to say, service was slow, albeit pleasant. As I compare all Middle Eastern/Mediterranean meals to that of Aladdin Cafe, all I can say is that it in no way measures up, so even with a Groupon, I would have no reason to eat here again.

  • Thomas A.

Had a Groupon for this joint so Aunt Cha Cha and I hitched up the chariots and galloped in here for a Saturday afternoon bite. Nice, smallish buffet but that's not a bad thing. All the stuff was good and there was plenty to eat. The Egyptian street food kurashi (?), chicken, rice, okra, silky lentil soup, tasty flat bread, a sweet spread made of cream cheese, yellow raisins, tapioca? Delicious! The man who greeted us at the door was very friendly and personable and quick to answer questions. The area was small but it was more than just a few booths and chairs. There were quite a few people who came in right after us. The atmosphere was comfy and bright without being brazen and over done. We loved our experience here and we told other friends about it. We will definitely be back! Oh, the salad was fabulous and fresh and tasty and the vinaigrette served with it was great! I'm not as familiar with names as I am the flavors of Middle Eastern food but there were enough dishes to satisfy and rounded out with some nice starches and soup. The servers made sure our tea and soft drinks were kept full and the table clean of used plates.

This is the first time I try Mid-Eastern food. And I am sure I will come again. The food rolled in the leaves in the sample plate is delicious but It doesn't tastes like anything had before. And I recommend Kunafa as a good dessert. The decoration of the resturant is also very Mid-eastern style. Their price is really low as their food is wonderful. They also provide open buffet.

  • Jon W.

Small buffet, but all items were delicious! I will be going back to order from the menu next, and would definitely go back for another weekend lunch buffet. I ended up with a mixture of their cucumber sauce, hot sauce and hummus on my plate, and it was one of the best sauce combos I've ever had.

We were early fans of this cute little joint. The owners and staff are super nice, a little awkward, but hey it's an ethnic restaurant so it's to be expected. The food is tasty, especially the Basha plate with the delicious garlic dill sauce. I personally think the pita is fabulous and the salad and hummus that come with entrees are packed full of flavor and are a lovely start to the meal. Lunch is especially inexpensive, not to say dinner is expensive at all though. We are always a little concerned by the lack of other patrons as we are often the only customers during our entire visit, but they must be doing okay because they are opening another location. Johnson county is lacking good Mediterranean food so we are fortunate to finally have a good option.

This place is amazing. Everything I have tried has been really good. Hummus - perfect. Chicken Biryani- just the right amount of spice. Sun Dried Tomato Chicken- creamy and delicious. The Basha Chicken Sandwich- I absolutely love the chicken and garlic sauce combination. Definitely try all the above and anything else. Be prepared to wait during peak dinner hours or make a reservation(still might have to wait) because more and more people seem to have taken a liking to this gem.

Slow slow slow service with lots of nice smiles. I purchased a livingsocial voucher and they would not redeem it for the full value even though it had not expired. Poor customer service. The food is adequate.

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the good and friendly service at this restaurant. I had the mixed grill platter which was excellent and quite generous portions for the price. Only negative was that the pita bread with the hummus seemed a bit off, but other than that a good dining experience. Will be back.

Our (very busy) server greeted and seated my sister and I seconds after we walked in. Even for a late lunch Basha was busy. We settled on basics, a gyro sandwich and the shawarma chicken lunch special. We also split the combo appetizer. The baba ganoush was perfectly creamy and smoky, the hummus bright with citrus. Both were lightly drizzled with olive oil and hot sauce that brought just the right kick to our pita bread. Also on the combo, light and crispy falafel and yummy stuffed grape leaves. We stopped just this side of licking the plate. The mains arrived. The gyro came with fries that were rocket hot and super crispy, sprinkled with spicy seasoning. The gyro was bursting with juicy meat cut into big slices. The chicken shawarma was seasoned with cumin, garlic and other spices and served on a bed of flavorful yellow rice. In spite of being full-ish from the app we had just devoured, the mains disappeared... it was just too good. Prices are reasonable, service was good. The restroom needed some attention but I suspect that was the result of a single female server on the floor, the girl was holding her own but could have used a little help. This was my sisters second time in, a first for me but I'll be back.

A very pretty interior with thoughtful service. I only wish the food was as good. Ordered both Sharma and falafel sandwiches only to be disappointed they had no pickled vegetables and crumble falafel in them. Pita bread was very white puffy similar to sandwich bread. This was a marginal attempt at simple good food.

Found The Basha through Groupon. Absolutely fantastic Mediterranean cuisine. Live music on Saturdays is great and recommended to enjoy dinner during the entertainment. Love everything about this place. We got the sampler plate, Turkish coffee (amazing!), and the mix grill platter. We have been here twice now and were impressed both times. Definitely will be coming back again - highly recommended!

The food is most definitely not authentic....more, from the freezer. It is good, however. We were there for dinner & it was extremely busy with only two servers. They brought my meal out before the person I was with...long before...to the point I was nearly done. The place is small but clean. What we did like was the quaint, hole in the wall feel. It's worth trying as long as you're not expecting fabulous service or authentic food.

Excellent food. I had the baba gnash with the pita and a gyro plate and finished off with a piece of baklava. Definitely go here for great tasting Mediterranean food.

Yum. Chicken bieryani was awsome. Good lunch deal for 7.99. Come with good portion of the chicken. Very good. I will be back with friends.

We had a groupon. Staff was very nice and combo appetizer was okay but in general it was underwhelming.

saw the pitch review and thought i'd give this place a try. right next to buffalo wild wings on metcalf & 103rd. the place was dead, i think there was one other person besides me the lunch specials are 8 bucks, which gets you a plate of meat and rice and another plate with a tiny sad salad and some delicious hummus. the pita tasted like the kind you buy at the store. i had the chicken swarhma and it was very damn tasty. the rice was probably the best i've had in a while. i need to come back for dinner some time i think. i also need to try desert. yup.

So glad I've found this place!! A step up from Mr. Gyros. Great Family run business with good Greek food to boot. They always have a groupon so get one and try it out! Awesome falafel, chicken schwerma, gyros. The appetizer sampler platter is big enough for 4 to share and try a little bit of everything. All dinner entrees come with a small salad, pita, and hummus. No alcohol served here, but great teas and the hibiscus juice is really refreshing and different. Amazing baklava- I usually have to get an order to go because I stuff my face. The Om Ala is pretty good too.I can't wait until it gets warmer to sit outside!

Wow, a little difficult for me to find the words to describe just how great The Basha really is...Well, for starters, great service from beginning to end. Drinks were always quickly filled and I had a lovely cinnamon tea in the cutest little cup I've ever seen. The pita is warm and the hummus is delicious, the perfect consistency. All four members of our party got different dishes and we were all arguing over who got the best one. I got the Kefta Kabob plate at 8.99 and was whisked into another world by fabulous lamb on a bed of rice with a side of heavenly hummus. My grandmother wouldn't share any of her Shawerma Plate so I believe that was pretty tasty since my grandmother is usually a generous person. The Mediterranean Sandwich is also very highly recommended. My sister got The Basha Chicken Sandwich, boring right? Wrong! It was juicy and wrapped tightly in toasted pita. It came with something that looked like mashed potatoes, but did not have the consistency of mashed potatoes. It was probably my favorite part of the main dishes. Not a clue what it was and I honestly, couldn't really understand the poor Jordanian boy who was desperately trying to explain. However, it was fabulous and one of those foods you find yourself dreaming about. I wish I could order a whole bowl of that white mystery mashed potato looking goodness. Turkish coffee was served in the middle which I recommend to everyone. It had great flavor and required no extra cream although some was provided. The coffee is made fresh throughout the day and they have a great Sumatra blend that they buy from a local store. Dessert was last and was a religious experience! We first tried Egyptian rice pudding. (By the way, the owners of the restaurant were born and raised in Egypt. Their wives, mothers, and other family members are the ones who provided all of the recipes and do a lot of the cooking!) It was fabulous and a cute little green raisin on top was just perfect. It had great texture, was cold, and had some incredible spices. Baklava was next of course, it is a Mediterranean restaurant! The crust was thick like a cookie so depending on how you like your baklava this might be a dessert to pass on. However, I love thick baklava and it had an amazing honey sauce with great presentation I might add. This dessert I am about to speak of next deserved its very own paragraph. Kunafa, kunafa, kunafa....KUNAFA! It is now probably my favorite desert of all time. I was told it was "exotic" so I was pretty pumped and my expectations were high. I was not disappointed! The bottom is sweet cheese, the top is orange colored shredded filo dough. On top of that dough are crumbled pistachios and there is also that succulent honey sauce. It sounds weird, I know. I wish I could describe the taste, but I have never tasted anything like it before in my life. All members of my party agreed it was the best thing at The Basha. I want to shamelessly eat a whole pan without taking a breath. Really, it is that good. Aside from the awesome food, the decor is really neat! There are a lot of rich brown colors and the tapestries hanging on the walls on literally from Egypt; as are their business cards and menus. Oh, and the brown curtains were sewn by a mother of the owner who flew from Egypt to help finish the restaurant. The beautiful tables were also made by one of the owners. Oh! If you walk to the back, there is this incredible lounge area for younger couples and parties. There are couches and pillows and everything is so low to the ground, I felt so "exotic"! I didn't just eat at a restaurant, I had an unforgettable dining experience! Located by Buffalo Wild Wings in Metcalf 103rd strip mall, The Basha is a delicious, inexpensive place that I will be visiting again very soon!

Food is always great. Very fresh tasting. I usually get the gyro paste our chicken briana. Never wait too long for food either. Try the Egyptian coffee.

I was dying to try this place because I love Mediterranean food. I got theirbeef Shawarma and I loved it! The beef was seasoned to perfection and they give you Tahini sauce with it which compliments it perfectly. The hummus and salad was ok, not the best, but not the worst. I really enjoyed their rice, it was moist and seasoned well. It had some basil in it, which was great, I don't like the kind with peas and vegetables.

I am always up for trying new places and since there was a groupon for Basha, I thought we would give it a go! We got the hummus to start and then I got the Shish Tawook and my husband got the Gyro plate. We really didn't have any complaints. My husband wanted another round of pita bread with his dinner and I took someone's suggestion about having them grill it and it was much better warmer. The server we had was attentive and super nice! Tons of refills! It was cold in the restaurant, but that's not a huge deal breaker for me. The food was really good. Would I drive all the way there for a gyro? Probably not, but it was nice to try and to have as an option if I'm ever out that way. We took baklava home for dessert and it was pretty delicious!

Definitely can tell it's original and our lunch was amazing. Hummus appetizer was perfectly seasoned along with my chicken schwarma. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for something local, fresh and foreign. My co-workers, who have never had Mediterranean food before loved it. I can't wait to bring my wife for dinner.

This place is a trip...TVs/LCD screens on the table. HA! Cracks me up. I dont really care what the hell it looks like so long as its relatively clean and the food is good. It is relatively clean and the food is OK. The staff is really nice and I never felt like some honky encroaching on anyones territory like have in many hole in the walls in this and others towns. Since the food is OK I rarely go there.

Very very good. Took away one star because they don't serve wine and a glass of wine would have gone very well with the excellent food they serve. Also they could improve their pita bread but overall I will definitely crave this place and be back soon. Hummus was good. Salad was good. Falafel was amazing -even my toddler loved it. Recommended the gyro plate and chicken shira or something like that. The chicken had a great flavor and was really tender. This place is really good.

Went here on Christmas eve after wandering about town.Since me and hubby were ravenous and craving Mediterranean,we just looked up the nearest mediterranean place on Yelp and decided to try it out.We reached there about 8.50 and was told by a sweet-faced server that they closed at 9.(Yup,in my hungry state of mind,I totally missed looking at the timings)Sensing our disappointment, the server went back to ask the owners whether they could accommodate us and came back to tell us that they would indeed serve us.We ordered the Shish Tawook and the Curried chicken(both served with fragrant rice). It came with free appetizers of pita bread and hummus. The hummus was the best I have eaten since I have left the middle-east.Most of the hummus we get elsewhere are too tangy .This was the perfect blend. The curried chicken was creamy and delicious but I felt that the chicken pieces in the Shish Tawook were a little under cooked. Did not try any dessert because by then,it was already 10 and we did not want to bother them further by keeping them open more than an hour after closing time. The ambience was great, especially because we got the entire restaurant to ourselves:D.Will definitely be coming back!!

Biryani was really bad. Baklava was microwaved. Pita which was ordered was hot and soft but which came as starter was cold and very hard to eat. It definitely does not deserve 4 stars.

We were very impressed with the food! Cannot wait to go back. We had the Shawerma Plate and the Shish Tawook. The Shawerma was a little over cooked so the chicken was dry but the sauce was so flavorful and tasty so i still enjoyed it very much. The Shish Tawook(kabobs) were our favorite and so so tasty. The salad that the serve first was one of the best salads I've ever had. The hummus was really good and the way they garnish it with oils and spices made it even better. Our only complaint would be the restaurant was very cold! They even had the lights off when we first walked in (there wasn't any other diners) Not sure if the owner is trying to save money? We just would have enjoyed the food more had it not been so cold.

Schwarma meat is not from a spit. They also put lots and lots of pepper on the meat. First class joint tho. Food was good. I just can't rate a schwarma joint a 5 if not from a spit

I am a big fan of Mediterranean food. They were spot on. The owner walks around making sure everything is okay and helps the staff. The service is good. And everyone is so friendly. Hummus is AMAZING. So good. Felafel's so delicious. The sandwiches comes with fries, but I just sub rice instead for no charge.

Saw the KC Star review last week. My husband and I went for lunch today. Food was fantastic. Service is laid back so a bit long. Owner and his wife were there and seemed to genuinely care that food and experience was good. We will definitely go back. Dolmas- great, hummus- amazing, lentil soup- fantastic. Very good value. Lunch combo was $9 and included hummus, pita, rice and small salad.

Very good restaurant! The meat, hummus, baba ganuj, falafel, and kunafa were all delicious! The pita bread did not taste very fresh but I gave my input to the waiter and would love for them to change the bread. There were so many other yummy things to eat so this was not very big of a problem for me. This was my first time trying the dessert kunafa and I was pleasantly surprised! The service was just as great as the food! The waiter was very friendly and the food was out at the perfect time! I will definitely be returning there soon!

I've been to a lot of Greek and Mediterranean restaurants around Kansas City and this one by far is the best. Not only are they one of the few that serve french fries, but the service is excellent. The gyro meat is flavorful and the hummus is creamy. It's also very fairly priced. Definitely recommend it.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was the buffet. The food was so mediocre. It was not restaurant quality, but maybe at home it might be ok. The staff was very nice and attentive, but the hummus had no flavor, the pita bread was cold. The dishes at the buffet were not interested at all. We sure would prefer Aladdin in KC/Lawrence instead.

Just ok. The service was very attentive, and the food was mediocre. I would go back- but I probably won't suggest it again. We had the kefta and chicken basha, both were just ok. No drink options, other than soft drinks- which is always a bummer.

My wife and I tried The Basha for the first time over the weekend. Both the food and the service were fabulous. We enjoyed splitting the Mixed Grill for 2 and Baklava. Very fresh and great Mediterranean flavors.

I went there with my sister for eid alfitr. I loved the food. I loved the designs in the place. The service was great! Our server was very nice & welcoming however she kept forgetting our straws every time I asked her to being us straws lol. But she did a great job. The one that greeted us when we went in was weird & looked at us as if we're aliens.

In the Kansas City area there are a lot of places that claim to serve top-notch Middle Eastern food. I can tell you from trying many of these establishments that none of them come close to The Basha. Whether it's the perfect hummus (which is complimentary with each entree), the Biriyani, the Kefta kebab, the Chicken Shwarma, the Falafel sandwich, or the scrumptious French fries everything is made with a perfect balance of seasoning and a great amount of attention to detail. At the time of this review, The Basha is only 8 months old. With this said, I am very impressed with how great the service is and how delicious the food is. Did I mention the incredible value? The entrees are very reasonably priced when you consider the taste, quality, and portion size. Just a tip: if you like your pita warm be sure to ask you server to grill yours before serving it. They have live music on Fridays, but with The Basha's ever-growing popularity it's a good idea to make a reservation. "Basha" is Turkish for aristocrat or well-respected VIPs. The food definitely tastes like it was made for exactly that kind of person. You should definitely make this your next dinner spot! (If there's a Groupon out for The Basha, you should buy one without question!)

Fantastic food! The people were overly friendly and the food was excellent. The rice was great and the mixed grill plate was amazing. We loved the desserts so don't forget to get one. Our kids even loved it. I'm glad we decided to try it.

Best hummus I have has in the US. We had the mixed grill for two. All excellent. Friendly staff, and very reasonably priced. Well worth the 45 minute drive from Leavenworth. Only regret is not saving room for desert.

Very welcoming. Beautiful decor, even the entrance from the outside is very nice. You can tell they put a lot of thought, time, and money into making the place look so great. We got the falafel and kibbeh appetizers and the shish tawook plates, which came with sides of hummus, pita bread, and some salad. To me, the shish tawook, the rice, the garlic sauce that comes with it, the salad, the hummus, and the bread were all absolutely tasty and fresh! I loved it all! I do wish there was a little more salad in the plate though. As for the kibbeh and the falafel, they were just okay to me. I felt they had a bit too much spices for me. We also had the rice pudding, which was A-MA-ZING!!!! And large portion too! Owners and servers were very friendly. Both owners came to our table to check up on us and chat with us, which was very kind of them. Would love to go back, and possibly have some tea in the traditional seating section they have, with low padded benches, pillows, and tables. Overall a great experience and would recommend this place for sure! A plus - clean and nice-looking bathroom!!! :)

Was excited to try this place, but, not what I expected from the reviews. Hummus was thin & tasteless. Salad was limp & tea tasted like it was made from instant powder, not brewed. Disappointed.

Finally, a decent place for Mediterrean food in southern Johnson County. This place is close to work, so I'll be eating here often. Had an appetizer sampler because I wanted to try some of my favorite foods. Falafel was great and had tahini dipping sauce. Loved the stuffed grape leaves, and baba ghanoush and hummus were really good apart from the chili oil they put on top of it. That's not my favorite way to serve baba ghanoush or hummus, so next time I'll ask them to leave it off. Also had the gyros with saffron rice and could have eaten that all day. Ambience is really nice. Love the colors used in their decor, and like the interesting nooks and crannies. All in all, a real winner in my estimation.

Fantastic food - the chicken shawirma is probably my favorite. Between the hummus and salad plate and the generous portions, you have to be very careful if you want to have room for dessert, but the rice pudding is more than worth the effort!
